Community Engagement and Organizing Coordinator

The Coordinator will be based in Piscataway Nation Territory (D.C., Metropolitan -DMV) region and plays a key role in providing thought partnership for the design and implementation of community engagement and outreach strategies to address structural inequalities. They will co‑lead community events, and mobilize the community for emerging initiatives like the Maya Leadership Academy, future Maya Interpreter Trainings and the establishment of the Maya Network, centered on a communal support system.

  • Has lived experience and has worked alongside Indigenous Peoples with a strong community organizing background.

  • Understanding of issues specifically affecting Indigenous Peoples, displaced Indigenous peoples, and immigrant communities.

  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations and teams, and navigate conflict across lines of differences.

  • Actively practices cultural humility with willingness for constant self reflection and growth.

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English - fluency in one or more Mayan languages is a plus! 

This is a remote position with regional travel in the DMV, evening, and weekend work necessary for community events.
